Wireless networks deliver innovative responses to Covid-19 in USA

Written by Michelle Lewis | Jul 14, 2020 2:00:00 AM

MobileCorp has partnered with Cradlepoint, the world's leading wireless network solution provider, who has delivered innovative cellular networking solutions in the USA response to Covid-19.

During the coronavirus pandemic in the United States, Cradlepoint has been to the fore, providing innovative connectivity solutions for first responders, healthcare, education and remote workers.

These solutions have applications in the Australian market as we begin to revise old ways of doing things.

As an Cradlepoint Authorized Partner, MobileCorp delivers wireless and edge network solutions. These include pop-up connectivity, temporary networks, branch networks and IoT edge networks.

Healthcare: Quarantine facilities and pop-up testing sites

In Covid-19 quarantine sites, overflow treatment centres, and pop-up testing clinics, Cradlepoint mobile routers are providing mission-critical mobile and on-site networks to keep essential technology, such as laptops, tablets, printers and medical equipment, always connected and operational.

First Responders: Cradlepoint delivers reliable real-time access to data

Quarantine, treatment, and mobile command sites require rapidly deployable, reliable, and secure wireless network solutions. As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, police and fire departments, EMS and military units, and other emergency response organisations needed uninterrupted access to critical applications, real-time communications, and data from IoT devices such as surveillance cameras. Cradlepoint provided wireless networks to enable first responders real-time access to data allowing them to prioritise response activities.

Education: school buses repurposed as neighbourhood internet hubs

Cradlepoint devised a solution to support communities experiencing wired ISP congestion or a lack of adequate Internet. School buses were equipped with secure WiFi internet access and parked in neighbourhood parking lots, parks and  and community hubs. For many students, accessing WiFi from a connected bus was the only viable option for completing online homework.

Remote Workers: centrally-managed Cradlepoint remote network solution

Cradlepoint responded to the sudden WFH shift with its Enterprise Remote Workers solution. Employees who have to fall back on home networks and consumer security solutions, and who are also competing with household members for bandwidth, can put company data and assets at risk. It also creates a situation where IT teams are unable to centrally manage and maintain security policies. Cradlepoint has an all-in-one pop-up wireless network solution for remote workers, providing IT teams with visibility and remote management capabilities. Zero-touch set up made it an ideal option for employees without technical expertise.

MobileCorp designs Cradlepoint networks for Australian customers

The sudden nature of the Covid pandemic caused Australian organisations to recognise the benefits of a flexible and scalable mobile network solution, says MobileCorp CTO, Phill McSherry.

"The pandemic has demonstrated the varied use cases that could benefit from a cellular network. We are now working with a number of organisations who are looking at Cradlepoint routers and NetCloudTM management to provide flexible branch networks, managed remote worker connectivity, temporary networks and also IOT edge networks.

"We have also developed a NextDay Connect solution based on Cradlepoint hardware. It was originally designed for companies waiting on nbn connection. However, we it can be utilised in many situations where a temporary or pop-up network is needed quickly."
